10 January 2007 - Rome The 2007 Financial Law: the new developments for nature conservation in Italy
Within the next three months, all regions and autonomous provinces will have to adopt conservation measures and, if needed, management plans for the Natura 2000 sites, on the basis of minimum standards which will be defined by the Ministry of Environment with a decree.
This is the main news on Italian nature conservation included in the Italian financial law (Law 296/2006 “Finanziaria”, art. 1 comma 1226), which aims at preventing further EU infraction procedures against Italy on this issue.A second new development is aimed at protected areas: the law gives to the parks the pre-emption right for the acquisition of buildings property of the railways but not in use and the right to acquire at no cost the buildings built illegally within a protected area. Moreover, the law allocates 25 million euro per year for international projects of cooperation on sustainable development and 10 million for sea conservation programs for the implementation of the Barcelona Convention. Finally the “Finanziaria 2007” foresees a framework program aimed at a sustainable forest management in accordance with the European action planon forests, to be prepared by the ministries of Agriculture and of the Environment.
