16 January 2007 - Rome Results of the opinion poll on management of the future LIFE+ funds
Comunità Ambiente has conducted an opinion poll on the future of Natura 2000 funding with the new financial instrument LIFE+. It asked the visitors of Comunità Ambiente’s website whether LIFE funds destined to Natura 2000 should be allocated with a national/regional criteria or on the basis of the quality of the projects, as in the past.
A total of 97 persons expressed their opinion. The majority answered that funds
should be allocated on the basis of the quality of projects (69%), while the
remaining 31% are in favour of a national/regional subdivision of funds. The
opinions expressed have a certain significance, considering that visitors of
Comunità Ambiente’s website are mainly people interested in Natura 2000 and that
the number of LIFE Nature projects financed in Italy since 1992 is 160,
including Coop and Starter projects.
The results of the poll have been
transmitted to the conciliation committee that is trying to find a compromise
between the position of the EU Parliament and that of the Council and of the
Commission on LIFE+ regulation.
