    28 March 2007 - Bruxelles
Conciliation Committee agrees on the future of LIFE+

The Conciliation Committee, which includes representatives of the three European institutions, the Council, the Parliament and the Commission, has reached last night a compromise on the new financial instrument for the environment, LIFE+...

The agreement foresees a total budget of about 1.894 million euros for the period 2007-2013. 78% of this total will go to projects (15% of which to transnational projects) and the remaining to NGOs, information activities and studies.
Half of the amount of projects will have to be directed to the “Nature and Biodiversity” component. This section will therefore receive a considerable increase in comparison to the past LIFE Nature program – an average of 105 million euros per year. This total could increase if there are no sufficient numbers of good projects from the other sectors. The Commission will make the selection of the projects, taking into account the indications and the national allocation to Member States.
The new regulation should be published before next June, after the final approval by the Parliament, and the call for new projects should be published at the start of autumn.(Comunitambiente.it)
