Countries bordering the Mediterranean are committed to contribute to the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity, through the Barcelona Convention and its Protocol concerning Specially Protected Areas and Biological Diversity in the Mediterranean. One of the objectives is to establish, by 2020, well-managed and ecologically representative national and regional systems of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), covering at least 10% of the oceans.
This Forum will serve as a platform to review the progress of the Mediterranean MPA network developed over the last years, and establish a common roadmap for 2020 in order to meet marine conservation challenges in the region.
The Forum will be held from 25th to 28th November 2012 in Antalya, Turkey.
