The call for proposals for intervention SRC01 “Compensatory Payment for Natura 2000 Agricultural Areas” under the CSR of the CAP 2023-2027 National Strategic Plan for the Lazio Region has been published.

This call for proposals aims to provide financial support to livestock farmers operating on permanent pastures within the Natura 2000 Network (Special Conservation Areas and Special Protection Areas), Natura 2000 site management bodies, and public or private land managers to offset additional costs and lost income resulting from constraints and restrictions imposed by Natura 2000 conservation measures.

This is the first time the Lazio Region has activated the Natura 2000 compensation measure, a significant achievement also thanks to the support of ARSIAL, a beneficiary of the LIFE Grace project. Our project thus achieves a significant success in implementing governance tools that promote extensive grazing in Lazio.

The call for proposals offers small-scale farmers an opportunity to obtain support to maintain their operations and carry out land maintenance or restoration projects that contribute to the protection of semi-natural grassland species and habitats, protected by the Habitats Directive and threatened by the progressive abandonment of pastures. This support is also crucial to achieving the objectives set by the EU Biodiversity Strategy and the Farm to Fork Strategy.

For 2025, the budget for the implementation of the project is €2,400,000.00. The grant will be awarded based on the area occupied by pastures, and applications must be submitted by May 15, 2025.
