Why is talking about biodiversity so difficult? Can empathy “save nature communication” and promote conservation activities and projects? Or perhaps artificial intelligence will simplify the way we communicate about our natural heritage?
The online training course “Communicating Biodiversity with New Media,” organized by the Regione Piemonte on Monday, September 8th and Tuesday, September 9th, 2025, as part of the European LIFE NatConnect2030 project, will attempt to answer these and other questions.
The course is aimed at anyone involved, in various capacities, in informing and communicating about issues related to nature conservation and protection.
Participation in the course is free.

Program
Day 1 – Monday, September 8 (10:00 am – 1:00 pm)
Instructor: Valeria Barbi (Environmental Journalist)
With Dr. Barbi, we will discover what biodiversity is and why it is difficult to communicate its importance, the consequences of the climate crisis, the succession of successes and failures related to conservation, the blocking mechanisms (cognitive biases) that influence the reception of communication, the importance of data and stories, the role of local communities and educational engagement processes.
Day 2 – Tuesday, September 9 (9:30 am – 12:30 pm)
Instructor: Alberto Puliafito (journalist and new media expert)
With Dr. Puliafito, we will explore the context of digital communication today, what generative artificial intelligence is, how AI can improve communication through examples of AI in the media, journalism, and communications, which AI tools we can use for social media management, automatic content drafting, trend analysis, the importance of engagement and interaction, and how to use virtual assistants.
