The creation of the International Marine Park of the Strait of Bonifacio was formally announced on December 7 at Bonifacio in Corsica, in its innovative role as a European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation (EGTC).
This original instrument, the result of 15 years of cross-border cooperation between the Corsica Office for the Environment and the National Park of La Maddalena, proposed by the European Union, will enable a more effective cross-border co-operation between France and Italy, with the establishment of an independent legal entity, without territorial authority in each country of which it is composed.
The EGTC will be responsible of promoting the protection, management and enhancement of natural and cultural resources of the Strait of Bonifacio, in order to implement a common strategy for sustainable development.
