This year’s theme was “Ecological Networks and Natura 2000: Planning and Conservation,” a key topic for managing our territory and preserving habitats and species.
The conference was opened by the Umbria Region Forestry Service, leader and coordinator of the IMAGINE project, with Dr. Possenti providing key information on the Ecological Network and Natura 2000 Sites in Umbria. The closing remarks were also presented by one of our partners, Dr. Livia Bellisari (Comunità Ambiente), who outlined all the project’s objectives.
The following speakers were Professor Daniela Gigante (University of Perugia), who presented the importance of conserving and managing grassland habitats in Umbria as treasures of biodiversity; Dr. Mauro Magrini (OIKOS Nature Study), who discussed the fauna of community interest in Umbria, both within and outside Natura 2000 sites; Dr. Gianandrea La Porta (University of Perugia), who illustrated the importance of Ecological Networks as connections for biodiversity; and Professor Alessandro Marucci (University of L’Aquila), who discussed the role of the Varco Agreement in Life IMAGINE to ensure ecosystem and territorial connectivity.
