LIFE IMAGINE’s objectives include assigning economic value to ecosystem services and promoting their implementation through the “Payment for Ecosystem Services” (PES) model.
PES are tools that aim to reward natural resource managers for their efforts to maintain or improve the provision of ecosystem services.
With this in mind, today, December 4th, the “Forest Sustainability for Umbria” forestry agreement was signed by several forest owners who have joined this initiative. The companies involved are Selvamar, Azienda Agricola Moretti, Podere Serradino, Agricola Pianciano, and Borghi dell’Eremo. The area covered by the five forest properties covers approximately 1,800 hectares within the IT5210040 – Boschi dell’alta Valle del Nestore (ZSC), IT5210021 – Monte Malbe (ZSC), and IT5210057 – Fosso di Camposolo (ZSC) sites.
This agreement aims to promote the remuneration of ecosystem services, ranging from forest carbon to recreational tourism services, including combating hydrogeological instability and protecting biodiversity.
