As part of the LIFE NatConnect2030 project, Legambiente Lombardia is promoting the “Custodi della Biodiversità” initiative, a program for the stewardship, protection, and care of the territory with a particular focus on nature and biodiversity.
Through this initiative, schools, individuals, associations, and municipalities are directly involved in the protection of habitats and species in the regions of Lombardy, Piedmont, Veneto, Emilia-Romagna, and the Autonomous Province of Trento. The goal is to strengthen the connection between communities and the territory, promoting shared responsibility for biodiversity conservation.
The stewardship activities take the form of a series of practical actions, such as the maintenance and monitoring of natural areas, raising awareness among local communities, and adopting best practices for ecosystem protection. This participatory approach not only contributes to the protection of nature, but also strengthens environmental awareness and the capacity for sustainable resource management.
On the dedicated website “Custodi della Biodiversita” (Guardians of Biodiversity), you can find all the information you need to participate in the initiative, discover ongoing activities, and meet the key players in this network of land custodians.
Specifically, the website will offer:
- Insights into biodiversity and land stewardship
- Instructions on how to sign a stewardship agreement or pact, implementing concrete actions to protect and care for the land
- A list of biodiversity custodians active in the various areas, to foster networking and community strengthening
- Useful materials for schools and local communities, including educational resources to raise awareness and engage in stewardship activities
- News on initiatives and events, to stay up-to-date on ongoing activities and opportunities for participation.
Furthermore, photographs and stories related to the stewardship agreements will be published on the Instagram channel (@custodia_lifenatconnect2030), to celebrate and share the experiences of those actively participating in this initiative. An opportunity to share the successes of this network of custodians and inspire more people to commit to protecting biodiversity.
